The Offer

Mariner was Brunswick's companion outboard brand to Mercury, launched in Australia in the early 1970s and in the U.S. in 1976. Mariner motors shared heavy engineering DNA with Mercury (and, in some overseas markets, Yamaha), which is why parts and service still run through the Mercury network today. Mercury stopped selling Mariner in the U.S. in 1999 and consolidated the brand fully under Mercury Marine around 2010, so a Mariner today is a used motor supported by Mercury.

Abridged History

  • Introduced by Brunswick in Australia in the early 1970s and in the U.S. in 1976 as a companion brand to Mercury.
  • Motors were essentially rebranded Mercury products (with Yamaha-based designs in some overseas markets), sharing parts and service protocols.
  • Mercury ended U.S. Mariner sales in 1999 and, around 2010, absorbed the brand entirely under Mercury Marine — which now provides parts and service for legacy Mariner owners.
