Outboard Motors for Sale in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Complete outboard motors rarely travel well. A 250 HP four-stroke weighs over 500 pounds crated, so freight quotes often run into four figures and a damaged lower unit is nearly impossible to claim after the fact. That is why most outboards change hands locally — and why buyers in Fort Lauderdale search for engines they can drive to, inspect, and load the same day.

Before you hand over money in Fort Lauderdale, insist on a compression test across every cylinder and confirm the readings are within roughly 10% of each other. Pull the cowling and look for salt crust, corroded bolts, and weeping seals — Florida saltwater is unforgiving on a motor that was never flushed. Check the prop shaft for a bend and the skeg for impact repairs, both of which hint at how the engine was run.

Ask for the hour meter reading and compare it to the seller's story. A water test is the single best hour you can spend: idle it, run it to wide-open throttle, and watch the telltale stream the entire time.
