American Power Boat Association
The American Power Boat Association (APBA) is the oldest and largest powerboat racing sanctioning body in the United States, founded in 1903. APBA sanctions hydroplane, runabout, outboard, jet sprint, vintage and offshore racing across every region of the country, from local club regattas to National and North American Championships.
UIM
Union Internationale Motonautique
The Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) is the world governing body for powerboat racing, recognised by the International Olympic Committee. The UIM sanctions World and European Championship rounds across offshore, circuit, aquabike, endurance and pleasure navigation disciplines in dozens of countries each season.

Race World Offshore (RWO)
Race World Offshore (RWO) runs professional offshore powerboat racing in the United States, headlined by the Key West World Championship. RWO events feature Class 1, Super Cat, Class 2, Super Stock, Super Vee, Modified Vee and bracket classes racing in open ocean and bay courses.
OPA
Offshore Powerboat Association
The Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) is a professional offshore powerboat racing sanctioning body founded on the East Coast, known for keeping the sport accessible with a flat annual membership rather than steep per-race entry fees. OPA races run along the Eastern United States under the motto "By Racers, For Racers".
SODA
Southern Outlaw Drag Boat Association
The Southern Outlaw Drag Boat Association (SODA) runs the Southeast’s outboard drag boat series — billed as the quickest outboard-powered drag boats in the U.S. The 2026 SODA Racing Series runs six stops across Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee.
H1 Unlimited
H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Racing
H1 Unlimited is the premier Unlimited hydroplane racing series in the United States — turbine-powered, 200+ mph boats competing for the national high-points championship at a handful of marquee waterfront festivals each summer.
AOF
American Outboard Federation
The American Outboard Federation (AOF) is a non-profit outboard boat racing organization founded January 15, 1971 in Oklahoma, built around member clubs across the central United States. AOF exists to promote outboard motor boat racing and its safety, keep club costs low, and help clubs stage races that otherwise could not run. Its published safety material, rulebook and race sanction paperwork are all free to download.

SCSC
So Cal Speedboat Club (SCSC Racing)
The So Cal Speedboat Club (SCSC) runs Southern California and Southwest desert powerboat racing, headlined by the Thanksgiving Regatta at Parker, Arizona — one of the longest-running powerboat races in the country. The SCSC season schedule also carries dates run with partner clubs RPM Racing and BIRC, including San Diego Bayfair on Mission Bay.
TCPBA
Twin City Power Boat Association
The Twin City Power Boat Association (TCPBA) is a non-profit powerboat racing club established in 1963, running family-friendly race weekends across Minnesota and neighboring states at speeds up to 135 MPH. TCPBA classes include GT Pro, Sport C, Hobby Stock, VP 75, SST 60, SST 120 and Formula 150.
IHRA Boating
International Hot Rod Association — Boating
The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is best known for drag racing sanctioning, and its boating division extends that structure to drag boat competition — elapsed-time bracket and heads-up racing on a straight-line water course. IHRA boating operates under the same national sanctioning, licensing and safety framework as its motorsports programs.

Who Sanctions Powerboat Racing In North America?
Powerboat racing is not run by one governing body. The APBA is the oldest and largest in the United States, the UIM is the world governing body, and offshore racing is split between Race World Offshore and the Offshore Powerboat Association. Underneath them sit regional clubs and specialty series — SODA for Southeast outboard drag boats, H1 Unlimited for turbine hydroplanes, AOF for central-US outboard clubs, SCSC in the California/Arizona desert, and TCPBA across Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.
Every race those bodies put on gets a free racer post board here — a public place to line up RV and trailer parking, race-week housing, crew and ride openings, mechanics and riggers, hauling and transport, props and spare parts, and sponsorship. No fee, no membership, no login to read it.
