Who's Making Them
- Torqeedo - The pioneer. 1HP to 100HP+ equivalent. Deep Blue system powers boats up to 35 feet
- ePropulsion - Chinese manufacturer, competitive pricing. Navy series: 3HP to 25HP equivalent
- Pure Watercraft - Premium startup. High-performance systems for fishing and sport boats
- Mercury Avator - 7.5HP and 20HP models launched. More coming
- Elco - Historic name (powered the first electric boats in the 1890s). Modern 5-50HP lineup
Current Limitations
- Range: 2-4 hours cruising on current batteries. Less at full power. OK for small lakes, not for offshore
- Charging: Almost zero marina infrastructure. You're bringing your own charger
- Cost: 2-3x more than comparable gas systems
Charging infrastructure at marinas is still almost nonexistent
Where Electric Makes Sense Today
- Inland lakes (especially no-wake or electric-only zones)
- Short-range fishing
- Dinghy tenders
- Environmentally sensitive waterways
As battery density improves and costs drop, expect electric to move mainstream by 2030.
